The Merle Travis guitar picking style is know today as thumb picking due to the dominant base line carried throughout the tune by the thumb. Mr. Travis used one finger adding the lead notes. Moon Mullins adds the second finger selecting lead harmony notes or ragtime licks, giving the second sound a new dimension. All you need is a moderate working knowledge of chords and a desire to learn. Moon Mullins slowly walks you through the tune with a split screen allowing you to see both hands at once. A graphic is displayed on the screen to show the basic chord changes. This combined with the latest technology and superior DVD quality makes this a new learning experience. At the end, Moon and one of his students, James Clinkingbeard, team up for a mini jam and play the very tunes you will learn. Song titles include: I’m a Pilgrim, The World is Waiting for the Sunrise, For Me and My Gal, Alice Blue Gown and Whispering. |

There'll never be another band like the Grateful Dead, but the Dead's music lives on. Now you can learn to play and sing nine classic Grateful Dead tunes from start to finish with Fred Sokolow's 90-minute instructional video. For each song Fred show you how to fingerpick backup while singing, how to play instrumental solo, and how to begin and end the tune. Along the way, you'll learn a lot about finger-picking: backup patterns, soloing ideas and chord positions. Each song is played at regular speed and then slowed down on a split-screen that gives you a close-up look at the picking and chording hands. All the arrangements are clearly written out in tab and music in the accompanying booklet, along with lyrics. |
