Natalie MacMaster's Cape Breton Island Fiddle
MB97811 $14.95
|
|
 |
This book contains transcriptions of selections from
three of Natalie MacMaster's albums: A Compilation, Fit as a Fiddle,
and No Boundaries. These tunes were selected because the fiddling was
easily heard over the accompaniment and the tune settings were reasonably
transferable to standard music notation. These meticulous transcriptions
include ornamentations reflecting as clearly as possible the way Natalie
currently performs the tunes, which may have evolved since the CDs were
recorded. The album source and particular cut are indicated at the beginning
of each tune. Contact Rounder Records at 1-800-768-6337 for the recordings

Traditional and Original Tunes for
Fiddle from 1762 to the Present MB99253 $12.95 |
|
 |
The fiddle has been popular in Scotland for over 500
years as an accompanying instrument for dance and song. Bonnie Rideout
has been playing traditional Scottish fiddle music since the 1980s.
This collection presents favorite tunes which Bonnie had stashed away
over the years while awaiting the perfect opportunity to record them.
The music written here ranges from J. Scott Skinner's Dr. Gordon Stable
(a wonderful fiery reel she once played to garner her first national
fiddling title as a young teenager), to Fear A Bhata (a heartbreaking
air she has known as long as she can remember).

Bluegrass Fiddler MB93341 $8.95

|
 |
A compilation of 30 fiddle tunes ranging from
folk to ragtime to gospel. Includes Skillet Good and Greasy; Rakes of
Mallow; Cripple Creek; Leaning on the Everlasting Arms; and others. All
tunes are presented in a "theme-and-variations" format. Guitar
chords are included as are lyrics, where appropriate. Levity leapt over
the lyrical in these fiddling favorites that set our father's feet to
stepping and made them "do their thing." |

Canadian Fiddle Music Volume 1 MB98361
$29.95

Canadian fiddle music receives the credit
and recognition it deserves in this lively collection of tunes from
virtually every province and ethnic group in Canada. Originally published
in 1990, this project is the result of generous donations by numerous
fiddlers and fans of fiddle music. In addition to the preservation and
popularization of this folk music form, the contributors shared these
common goals in this endeavor: composer recognition, folk music revitalization
in Canada and abroad, acknowledgement of the violin and its own origins
in the development of fiddle music and its place in Canadian society,
note reading and chording, and to pay tribute to many great fiddlers.
